Matt Welsh - Olympic Swimmer Tells His Story

Growing up like most kids I was a water baby, I loved anything to do with water, be it in a pool or in a bath. I never had official swimming lessons, but I was always swimming with my older brother and sister. After trying out competitive swimming in year 10 at school, I was hooked. I loved the fact that I could compete in something so fun. I immediately joined the school swim team and at 18, when I left school, I joined a club and the rest as they say is history.
After 13 years of swimming and over 30 international medals from the Olympics, World and Commonwealth Championships, I was very happy to hang up my bathers and move on to a new chapter in my life, one with kids! Looking back on my career, I wouldn’t change a thing. But one thing always did stay in the back of my mind.
We were told one day that the layer of gas on the surface of the water that we were breathing was quite harmful. We weren’t told why or how to avoid the toxins because we were too focused on swimming to really worry about it too much. It was all about the now. In the last few years of my career I found it very hard to push my body as I was suffering asthma like symptoms when I pushed myself, but I had never had any breathing issues before this, let alone asthma. I just put it down to getting older and had done ever since.

As an ex-swimmer I was very keen to get my kids into the pool as early as I could. My son Sam loves swimming but my daughter Eva had a difficult start to life spending a week in intensive care when she was just 2 weeks old. Ever since she has suffered from eczema and as a consequence I didn’t want to make it worse by taking her into a pool. Then one day I came across MagnaPool.
As an ex-swimmer and being technically minded I was very interested to see what it was about. After a lot of research, I was compelled to contact MagnaPool and get more information on this fantastic new system. After experiencing it for myself I immediately got our home pool converted, and now, not only can Eva join Sam swimming with me, but also her eczema is clearing up every day.
For my family and for the environment our MagnaPool has been fantastic. For for my own health - well I no longer have to breathe in all the toxins; I just wish I could have trained in a MagnaPool for 13 years!
